Beach Day Essentials

There’s nothing better than a perfect beach day — warm sun, salty air, and the sound of waves in the background. But the key to a stress-free day by the water? Packing smart. Here’s your ultimate Beach Day Essentials checklist so you can relax, unwind, and enjoy every minute.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is the most important item in your beach bag. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours (or after swimming). Don’t forget lip balm with SPF and a face-specific sunscreen if you’re prone to breakouts.

To make applying sunscreen even easier, try using a solar buddy. Simply load your favorite sunscreen in the solar buddy, and apply. The sponge applicator rubs in the sunscreen for you! This works especially well for kids who want to do it themselves.

To keep your sunscreen items organized, put them together in a cute bag. Not only is it more fun that way, but it's a great way to know exactly where they are when you need them.

Large Tote Bag

A roomy, lightweight tote bag is the way to go. Look for one that’s easy to shake out or wipe down (sand happens!) and big enough to hold towels, sunscreen, snacks, and extras.

Beach Towels

Bring at least one oversized beach towel per person. Quick-dry microfiber towels are great for saving space, while plush cotton towels offer extra comfort for lounging. A beach towel with a carrying bag is great, because when you leave for the day you can put your dirty towel back in its bag and keep the extra sand and dirt off of the rest of your stuff.

Beach Chair

A comfortable beach chair makes all the difference. Whether you prefer a reclining option or a simple foldable chair, having back support helps you truly relax instead of constantly shifting in the sand. Bonus points for one that has cup holders!

Towel Bands

While we are on the subject of chairs, don't forget a towel band! There is nothing more annoying than trying to relax in your beach chair and catch some rays, just to have your towel continuously falling down. These bands will keep your towel nicely in place so you can enjoy your day in the sun.

Swimsuit Cover-Up

A cute swimsuit cover-up makes transitions easy — from water to snack bar to sunset stroll. Lightweight dresses, oversized button-down shirts, or breezy matching sets are perfect for comfort and style. Choose something breathable and quick-drying.

Swim Suit

Of course you can't forget a cute swim suit! Whether you're into teeny bikinis, complete coverage, or the trendy swim dress, make sure your swim suit checks off two boxes: it's cute, it's comfy. I personally love a high waisted bikini with a little extra coverage.

Beach Hat

Protect your face and scalp with a wide-brim beach hat or a sporty cap. Not only does it help prevent sunburn, but it also keeps you cooler throughout the day, and adds a little something extra to your beach outfit.

Sunglasses

Shield your eyes from harsh UV rays with quality sunglasses. Polarized lenses help reduce glare from the water, making everything more comfortable (and stylish).

Sandals

Easy slip-on sandals are ideal for hot sand and quick walks to the water. Choose waterproof materials so you don’t have to worry about getting them wet.

Cooler

Staying hydrated is extremely important during a day at the beach, but who wants to lug around a big heavy cooler? Instead, try cute, compact cooler that will still hold everything you need.

Snack Bag

Usually a day at the beach requires a few snacks. Keep your beach bag organized by keeping your snacks together in a smaller bag.

Wet Bag

Taking a wet bag with you to the beach can be a life saver. Put your wet swim suit, shirt, or a leaking bottle of sunscreen in it , and it will keep your wet items separate from the rest of your bag.

Extras Bag

If you're like me, you carry a lot of little "extras" in your beach bag. Hair ties, a claw clip, a portable phone charger, and maybe even a small blue tooth speaker. Make your life a ton easier, and keep them all together in a smaller bag. This way, when your hair is driving you nuts, and it's hotter than the sun, you can easily find the little bag containing your "extras", pull your hair up, and go back to enjoying your beach day.

Portable Fan

We all love the beach, but let's face it, sometimes it's just so dang hot! Help beat the heat with a portable fan. These things are small, but are a huge help in keeping you cool and the heat bearable (this is another item I like to keep in my "extras" bag).

Portable Blue Tooth Speaker

That portable blue tooth speaker we are putting in our "extras" bag, it's a must for any music lover. A small JBL is perfect for any beach day. Its rugged enough that it will last for years to come, and they are available in tons of cute colors!

Portable Phone Charger

Don't forget about a good portable phone charger! Between taking pictures and playing music, your phone battery dies quickly at the beach. Be ready with a good backup.

After Sun Lotion

There's nothing better after a long hot day at the beach, than a shower and a good after sun lotion. Keep that new tan hydrated, moisturized, and glowing!

The perfect beach day isn’t just about sunshine and waves — it’s about being prepared enough to fully relax. When your bag is packed with the essentials, you can skip the stress, soak up the sun, and stay comfortable from sunrise to sunset. Pack smart, hydrate often, reapply that SPF, and let the ocean do the rest.
